Walter Gorin enlisted as a Private in the 3rd Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment, service no 6035, on 25th August 1897 in Gloucester for a term of six years service. On his attestation paper he gave his place of birth as Malvern, Worcestershire and his age as 18 years 5 months. He was employed as a farm labourer by Mr Hooper at Churcham, near Gloucester. Walter was 5 feet 5 inches tall with a fresh complexion, brown eyes and brown hair. In 1899 he enlisted in the Grenadier Guards.
