Further Information About DE BLABY Reginald Swithun

Capt., Loyal North Lancs. Regt.
Born July 15, 1894. Fell in France, September 5, 1916.
Reginald de Blaby was the second son of the Reverend W. G. de Blaby, Rector of Kemberton, Staffordshire. He entered the Hostel from the Cathedral Choir School in September, 1906, in the Lower School, leaving from the Fifth Form in 1912 to go to Birmingham University School of Commerce. He represented the School in the First Cricket and 2nd Football XI. He subsequently became assistant manager in the carpet works at Kidderminster, a post in which he was doing excellently when the call of the War came. He won rapid promotion in his regiment and was gazetted Captain just after he fell, when he had received the special thanks of his Brigadier for capturing and consolidating a portion of an enemy trench. The Brigadier-General writes: “He behaved with great gallantry and died of wounds on the 9th after nobly carrying out his duties. All who knew him greatly bemoan the loss of such a good and popular officer. He fell when the ridge was won.” A fitting close to a life of loyalty and duty.
W. H. C.
