Arthur William Crawford was born at Bromsgrove in 1895 the son of Arthur and Ellen Crawford nee Liddal.

Arthur junior was a farm labourer who subsequently worked at the Austin Motor Company. He enlisted at Birmingham in September 1914 and went to France on 28th July 1915.

Mr A Crawford, Fleetwood, Staple Hill, received a telegram last week stating that his son, 12320, Private A Crawford, North Staffs Regiment, died on May 21st in hospital in Rouen. It had previously been reported that deceased was suffering from gas poisoning. Deceased was aged 24, and unmarried. Before the war he was employed at the Motor Works at Longbridge and joined up in September 1914. He had been on active service since the autumn of that year, and until he was gassed, had come through the campaign without mishap. The report includes a photograph of Arthur Crawford.
His brother, Enoch Crawford, 32328, 8th battalion Gloucestershire Regiment, was killed in action on 25th August 1918.
