HMS Boadicea was attacked 12 miles south west of Portland Bill by a German Ju88 aircraft whilst escorting a westbound convoy as part of the Normandy landings. She was hit by two torpedoes dropped by the aircraft and sank very rapidly with only 12 survivors from the 182 men on board.
