Edward Beard was employed on the London and North Western Railway as a Goods Porter in the Goods Department at Aston Station, Birmingham. He joined the National Union of Railwaymen on 13th July 1913 and left in March 1915. He entered the theatre of war in France on 22nd March 1915.
